Introductory Statement:
Patriotism of a citizen is one of the defining forces to move a country forward. In terms of development and in the world presence, a country can achieve the impossible if it has patriotism in the hearts of its citizens. It can also be an ambiguous scale because a great mass of people lean toward the benefits of it and show a good deal of agreement. At the same time, there are people in disagreement of patriotism and argue that it can cause substantial negative effects.
Body Paragraph 1:
When it comes to its advantages, patriotism can provide a stream of upstanding citizens that can go above and beyond for its country. Be it the military forces, admissions into police forces or administrative services, a country needs individuals who can be chiseled easily into the people that benefit the society and the nation which in turn will create a dominant and powerful image in front of the world. Having mentioned that, it can also be said that to achieve this patriotism, many unfair practices can come into picture.
Body Paragraph 2:
Having a blind faith to one’s country and combining that with the lucrative ideas that a country might preaches to its citizens, can result in devastating outcomes. Moreover, it becomes very easy to manipulate the mass by tapping to their emotions and the easy target for that becomes the uneducated and overly religious people. This exact idea gives birth to terrorism and dictatorship. Patriotism is a beautiful tool for a civilization but it can easily be used as a weapon. Recent situations in Afghanistan and Russia support that hypothesis.
Conclusion:
Humans as a civilization has benefited a lot from patriotism. But the ugly truth that comes from it cannot be swept under the rug. Horrors that come from patriotism greatly outweigh its advantages. Moreover, the benefits that one might argue from patriotism can be achieved by other means.
