Band 9 Sample: Nowadays, not enough students choose science subjects at university in many countries. Why is this? What effects does this have on society?

Introductory Statement:

Education plays a predominant role in the development of society. In the modern era, not many students prefer subjects related to science at university level in most of the nations. This essay intents to admit that the main reason behind is the humongous fees structures of science courses and most of the students can not afford. Further, it admits that it has two crucial effects on the society which would decline in the research and development. And can lead to the scarcity of scientific professionals like doctors and engineers.

Body Paragraph 1:

Talking about the main reason, since science subjects are practical subjects. But their curriculums involve a lot of lab and practical works. This makes their courses costly and unaffordable for the most of the masses. Moreover, the students also feel burdened and pressured as they have to arrange for the expenses which ultimately leads to debts and loans at the level of banks and private money lenders. Here the UNITED NATIONS REPORT 2023 can be mentioned which stated that 90 percent of the students admit that they did not pursue science stream because of the high fees structures at the university level.

Body Paragraph 2:

Enlightening about the effects, the major consequence of this development would be that society will move far away from research and development. This will not only hinder the overall growth of the society but the individuals as well. Further, depletion of  Doctors and Engineers will hinder the cycle of the society whereby it will deteriorate the medical system and the advancements at the level of technology at the micro and macro stages. To exemplify, as per the findings of a scholar named Dr. Samuel, he predicted that the world would end soon if the subjects related to sciences are not given importance in the society as they are very much basics of the development.

Conclusion:

To conclude, since education is the very basic of any development, the preference of students being diverted away from science subjects is due to the over expensive courses of science subjects. Admittedly, it is detrimental effects on the society as it will erode the research and development and would even create imbalance in the society as number of professionals like Doctors and Engineers would come down.
