Band 7.0 Sample: In many countries around the world, rural people are moving to cities, so the population in the countryside is decreasing. Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?
Introductory Statement:
In this fast-paced era, global population is rising by leaps and bounds. There is an ongoing trend of migrating from rural areas to urban areas worldwide, which decline the rate of population in countryside. This essay believes that it is a negative development as it causes several problems to mankind. In the forthcoming paragraphs, this essay will first discuss about the less availability of jobs in rural areas and lack of natural resources in cities. Secondly, it is going to discuss about the environmental problems such as pollution and land clearance for building residential area in cities.
Body Paragraph 1:
To embark with, it is true fact that there are less number of facilities that are available in countryside, owing to which people are migrating to cities so that they can have better facilities. It is not good for city’s environment as population over there may increase; due to which several problems arise. Mainly, people do not indulge themselves in farming so there is scarcity of food resources and people can also go hungry. Ultimately, it leads to inflation and the prices of various things get sky high. And then it leads to lack of job opportunities in the rural areas due to less development. To exemplify, a survey was conducted by Research and Development department of India in 2022, which stated that there will be no food available for eating as there will be no one left in rural areas who prefers to do farming.
Body Paragraph 2:
Moving forward, this development leads to various environmental issues in cities as well. Due to over population, urban areas are becoming very congested. Moreover, agricultural land is now converting to residential areas for living purpose. Thus, it hinders the natural habitat of several living creatures. In addition to this, pollution in also rising at an alarming rate as most of the people who are living in urban areas travel via their own vehicle which not only causes air and noise pollution but also results in traffic jams. There is increase in competition among people for jobs which results in lack of job opportunities. For instance, an article was published by famous researcher Robert Hussain recently, in which he stated that people may face bad consequences of increasing population in urban areas.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, this essay discussed that the tendency of moving from rural areas to urban areas is totally a negative development. As people may face distinct type of problems like scarcity of food resources, inflation and limited place available for living. There will also be issues related to pollution, traffic problems and lack of job opportunities also.
